Complement this stress-free facility with an art installation for an outdoor area intended for counseling and as a place of reflection at the VA outpatient clinic. Artist Gordon Huether helped us solve this challenge.

To find a local artists’ whose work represents the beauty of the region for throughout the entire building as well as commission a mural for the high-ceilinged lobby.

KEY FEATURES
  • A mural commissioned from a local artist taking advantage of the tall windows and high ceiling of the lobby.
  • The mural was a part of the City of Santa Rosa’s 15 for art program.
  • Locate beautiful work by local artists to compliment the newly designed and updated space.

Create large public art piece for hospital parking garage where people arriving & leaving may be in an anxious, vulnerable state. We used a local artist to create a reminder of the natural beauty of our local landscape to create a soothing and healing effect.

To find local artist's whose work represents the beauty of the region, as well as and the rich cultural heritage of greater Sonoma County area, and commission a mural for the first floor elevator lobby.

KEY FEATURES
  • Art sourced from local artists including lobby commission by Maria de Los Angeles
  • Commissioned from a local artist representing the history of the facility
  • Art complementary to the mural was designed for on the 2nd and 3rd floor using unique designs to differentiate each floor and create way finding
  • Custom pieces on the 2nd and 3rd floor are inset into the walls

Work with the executive director, key staff, facilities manager and the artist to arrive at a design concept that is aesthetically pleasing and complements the patient population. Then work with the builder & project manager to secure permits through the city. Coordinate the project with the architect, facilities, builder, contractor, landscape architect, and the artist to install on time and within permit parameters.

KEY FEATURES
  • Part of the Public Art - 1% for Art program
  • Two trompe l'oeil or fool-your-eye style of murals painted on canvas in the artist's studio for permanent installation on-site
  • Each mural includes photorealism representation of clinic staff personnel.
  • Impression of the building from the street view is warm and inviting as well as playful with the inclusion of the mural.

Come up with an original design/concept which ties together a series of freestanding removable panels 4’ x 8’.  The removable screen is to serve a visual block for a permanent MRI trailer on campus. The panels need to be able removable to allow the trailer movability as needed.

Find creative way to use the 1% public art budget to create a piece within an existing building structure (rather than in new construction). We were able to find an existing skylight in the building that is visible to the public on four sides. Our solution was to create mosaic tile piece around the base of this existing skylight.

Create a playful, relaxing environment in the labor and delivery patient lounge. Wanting something that would appeal to both children and adults, we arrived at a family of egrets on a nest, birds that are readily spotted in Sonoma County and a playful stand in for the stork of nursery rhymes.
